Mother's Day: Who's Your Baby, Now?

Mother's Day is just around the corner, and my guest blogger today, Suzanne Strisower, has a different perspective on what it means to celebrate being  a mother. Suzanne reminds us of some important facts to ponder on this special day:

  •  Not all babies are human.
  • Some mothers have furry babies, too.
  • And...not all mothers are human.

Mother’s Day is NOT as Inclusive as It Should Be

Mother’s Day is a fantastic day to celebrate your biological mother that has given birth to you. The person who brought us into this world…But it is so much more!
Interestingly enough, we only think of ourselves, not our pets who have puppies, kittens or our livestock who have animals that we take from them on a regular basis to eat or give away without a second thought. How about if we honor these mothers too? The ones that provide us with life, love and pleasure. We often only think of the humans in our lives, but there are so many other mothers in our lives that touch us on a daily basis. How about honoring them today too?

Let’s not forget the biggest mother of us all – our amazing planet earth – Mother Gaia… Are you going to celebrate her today and the one who truly nourishes you above all others – no matter what circumstances or background that you come from 24/7. Let’s expand this celebration to include the Mother of us all!

For Mother’s Day this year, I challenge each of you to think beyond your biological mother that Hallmark has made a fortune off of. Think about each and every “Mother” that you have in your life. Honor each of them and do a good deed for each Mother that you have – 2 legged, 4 legged and the Mother of us all. Let’s make this Mother’s Day one where every mother is honored and included in this celebration.

Mother's Day may be a difficult holiday for those of us who no longer have our biological mothers  with us to celebrate. However, it is important to remember that we are more than the product of our biological parents. We have another mother and Mother Gaia is always by our side. And, so often we forget that our furry children are as much a part of our family as our human children. So I ask you again, "Who's your baby, today?"
