The Universal Wisdom of Dreams: Making the Invisible Visible

 by Dr. Bernie Siegel  http://berniesiegelmd.com/
((I give Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanavos permission to use and post my blog on her sites. Dr. Bernie Siegel.)

Dr. Bernie Siegel, Bernie by choice, is my guest blogger today for part 2 of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.      Dreams can be an important part of our waking life. They can even save our lives through Inner-guidance. Bernie’s words take us on a personal journey through his life of dreams, pets, healing, respect and love....

Over the years, I have had many dreams and experiences which have served as personal guides for me and made me think about my life, actions and creation. I believe the reason we sleep is not just to allow our body to rest but to allow a universal inner wisdom to speak to us through symbols. The message can be about physical as well as psychological problems. I have found dreams and drawings very useful in diagnosing physical conditions. Doctors are not told, while being trained, that Jung correctly diagnosed a brain tumor from a dream. This inner universal wisdom which creates our dreams will sometimes manifest itself in images and words.

Bernie Siegels dogs For example, I wrote a book called Buddy’s Candle to help people deal with the loss of a loved one of any species. When I finished the book, I took our dog Furphy out for a walk. I heard the voice of my inner wisdom say to me, “Go to the animal shelter.” We got into the car and drove there. I walked in and saw a dog sitting near the door. The voice said, “What’s his name?” Of course the answer was, “His name is Buddy. He has been here less than fifteen minutes.” I said I was there to take him home and I did. I have to add that on the way home I stopped for gas and Buddy leaped out of the car and started running down the road. With help I caught him and when we got home I quieted my mind and asked him why he did that? His answer, which blew my mind was, “I belonged to a couple. The husband was an alcoholic. When his wife would ask him to take me for a walk he would go to a bar and drink while I was locked in the car and then he would abuse me.”

I told him I would never treat him like that. The test happened a few weeks later when going shopping. I accidentally hit the button on my car keys, while putting them in my pocket, which opened the minivan’s side door. When I returned to the car Buddy was sitting in the open car. I started yelling for Furphy and then heard Amelia Kinkade, my animal intuitive friend, say, “Bernie, quiet your mind.” As soon as I did, I knew Furphy was in Stop & Shop looking for me. And indeed when I went there the guard saw me and asked if I was looking for my dog which he had with him.

Sometimes the universal inner wisdom delivers its message in visual form. Many years ago I experienced hematuria and my associates wanted me to immediately see a urologist as cancer could be the cause of the bloody urine. I was very busy and did not want to interrupt my schedule and caring for patients. That night I went to bed and dreamed that I was sitting in the cancer support group I ran. Those attending were all introducing themselves and telling why they were attending. When it came my time to speak and introduce myself everyone said, “But you don’t have cancer!” before I could say a word. I awoke knowing I didn’t have cancer and that I could make an appointment that fit my schedule. The dream proved to be correct. I had an infection, not cancer.

These experiences and many others have led me to the belief that consciousness is non-local, not limited to the body and independent of it. I believe what leaves our bodies and sees when we have a near death experience is the same force which creates our dreams; the universal collective consciousness and the source of creation. So if you want to make the invisible visible pay attention to your dreams and drawings as God speaks in dreams and images.

Bernie’s stories about love and his relationship with patients, animals and dreams, shows how important our Inner-guidance is in all aspects of life. When we still our mind-chatter, handle our fear and stress, and focus on Inner-guidance we can find the answers to almost any of our challenging questions, often in our dreams.

THE VAST UNFOLDING OF YOUR HUMAN POTENTIAL
  by Nathan Crane

Do you ever get the cold or the flu?  Do you ever get heartburn, headaches, or gastrointestinal problems?  If you’re like millions of people around the world, you probably feel sick in some form or another at least once a month, sometimes more.  Well here’s the truth; human beings were designed perfect.  Our brain functions one million times faster than the fastest computer on the planet.  Our heart continuously pumps blood to every cell of our body without ever having to be turned on or off.  Our cells regrow themselves every single day, and yet we have come to some type of insane conclusion that it’s not only normal, but that it’s actually OK to be sick and drained of energy.

Disease and sickness are caused because of lifestyle choices.  What our parents choose to eat, drink, inhale, think, and believe gets passed on down to us, and then comes a time when we are conscious of choice and decide if we want to continue down that unconscious path, or if we want to choose a path of our own.  It is vitally important that we observe and question everything we’ve ever been taught since birth.  Just because we were taught by a wealthy person, a priestly person, or a wise person, and this includes our parents, does not mean that it is what’s right for us.

Keeping our minds open to the unlimited possibilities of life is what helps us achieve lasting greatness in our lives.  The possibility to look, feel, and think better than you’ve ever done before is right at the tip of your fingers.  There’s no secret to living full of joy, health, and happiness, it really comes down to just a few simple things; Conscious Awareness, Intuitive Guidance, Willpower, and the Determination to experience the vast unfolding of unlimited potential.

Here’s a list of some of the things in my life I have consciously and intuitively decided to give up; coffee, alcohol, cigarettes, cooked meat, processed fast foods, cooked dairy, and negative thinking.

I went from being sick at least twice per month, to maybe getting a small cold once or twice per YEAR, and even that seems to continue to lessen as the times passes.  So I know this stuff really works.  I’m not asking you to go out and give up every bad habit you’ve ever created, what I’m saying is that it’s vitally important that each of us become aware of which habits we have created and which ones are detrimental to our lives so that we can consciously choose how we want to proceed in the days ahead.

Do you want health or dis-ease?  Do you want energy or laziness?  Do you want joy or anger?  Do you want fulfillment or boredom?  Of course the answers to these questions are quite simple to guess at, but the real question is, what are you going to do in your day-to-day life that will help you begin experiencing more of what you truly want?  What action steps are you willing to take to help you encompass a life full of joy, health, and happiness?

The key to enjoying life is to get in touch with your roots, and when I say roots, I mean the roots that connect every living plant to the earth and every living cell to your body.  Nature is the greatest teacher of all.  The ocean taught me more about public speaking than any other teacher I’ve ever learned from.  The moon taught me more about love than any other spiritual guru I’ve ever studied under.  The animals teach me more about forgiveness than I could ever imagine learning anywhere else.  Our Creator’s essence is within every living thing and that includes you and me.  Our creator is more than perfect, He is perfection Himself and teaches us that our own lives are reflections of Him*.  So learning from nature is the direct connection to learning from the Creator of the Universe.  There’s no better teacher.

To be perfect means to strive for purity.  Purity is within each and every one of us; we just have to strip away toxins, bad habits, and negative beliefs to reach it.  Sickness and disease is created by the unconscious Man and in fact, does not even have to exist at all.  Some people say that you need sickness for their to be health, but the truth is, if all you experienced was pure, loving, energetic health, there would be no room or need for sickness at all.

I am on a constant journey towards purifying my heart, soul, mind, and body, and I can tell you that through continuous self-exploration, cleansing processes, observation, and meditation, I find out more about my connection with the divine every day, and I invite you to do the same.  Let’s co-create a world of harmony and health for the future of our lives, our families, our children, and the many children to come.  To begin this process in your life, I recommend cleansing out the toxins that have been maliciously and unconsciously stored in your body over the years.  These toxins have ages of information attached to them and the information is typically negative and harmful to your self-growth.  By cleansing your mind and body of toxins you open up new channels for conscious awareness to enter into your life and new avenues for unlimited health and vitality to take over.

Any cleanse is good to start; a juice cleanse, a blended cleanse, a three day cleanse, a five day cleanse, or a twelve day cleanse.  The truth is, not all cleanses are created equal, but the other truth is that any cleanse is better than no cleanse at all.  This is the starting point to purifying our lives.  And over the years of cleansing and trying new cleanses time and time again, the best one I’ve ever found, or rather created, was one that only utilized the best of nature’s most natural ingredients.

I’ll go deeper into this topic in my upcoming articles about cleansing and I will share with you more of my background and experiences with which cleanses have been wonderful for my mind, body, and spirit, and which cleanses you can use in your life to begin experiencing more conscious intuitive habits that change your life right before your very eyes.  Subscribe to my emails at www.NathanCrane.com for more updates, articles, and resources about healthy living.

Guess Who's coming to Dinner? Dining with the Dead! (Part 2)

In part 1 of this article we covered the concept of Dumb Suppers, the reasons they are performed and why they may be successful at conjuring the dead.

In part 2 we will discuss manners, rules, and places of mass gatherings for the Dead’s Dumb Suppers.

Have you ever attended a Dumb Supper on All Hallow’s Eve where you serve the dead?

We understand the concept of death as spirit leaving the body. But, what about the idea of spirits returning for dinner?

Here are five rules for breaking bread with the dead.

11.)   Dinner begins with a prayer, and a welcoming of the ancestors.

22.)    The meal continues with quietude for the remainder of the meal.

33.)   Appliances, computers and cell phones are turned off because it is believed that silence is helpful for the dead to be among the living.

44.)  No one leaves the table until everyone has finished eating.  The silence is broken when everyone thanks the ancestors for dining with them.

55.)   After the meal is over, the ancestor’s food is fed to the family pets, spread over the earth, or taken to the cemetery where it is left on their grave sites. It is believed that the dead ate of the essence of the meal and thereby shared in the celebration of life with loved ones.

One of the largest gatherings for the Festival of the Dead’s Dumb Supper is held in the Grand Ballroom of the Historic Hawthorne Hotel in Salem; a haunted site featured on the SciFi Channel’s show Ghost Hunters.

This All Hallow’s Eve, rather than simply remembering your loved ones who have passed over, invite them to partake of the essence of life with you—food. Sit quietly and remember the wonderful times you shared together in life and know that they are remembering them with you because love transcends time, space and death. Love is a gift you can take with you.

End your Dumb Dinner by toasting them. End the silence by drinking in honor of all the ancestors you did not meet in this lifetime, until now.

Try it. You may like it as much as they do.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? Dining with the Dead! (Part 1)

Have you ever attended a Dumb Supper on All Hallow’s Eve where you served the dead?

We understand the concept of death as spirit leaving the body. But, what about the idea of spirits returning for dinner?

Our love for the deceased is shown by talking to them in their burial place, lighting candles for them in places of worship, and displaying their pictures. On the anniversary of their passing we have moments of silence, song, and food where we live, work, and pray.

So, is setting a place for the dead at our dinner table going too far?

Those who practice the Dumb Supper on All Hallow’s Eve don’t think so. The Dumb Supper is a reverent event that discourages conversation of any kind.

Dumb Supper literally means quiet meal—mum’s the word–Shhh!

It takes place on Samhain, which is All Hallow’s Eve or Halloween.  This practice, celebrated worldwide, is one of the largest gatherings at the Festival of the Dead in Salem, MA.

Why would the veil between the living and the dead be thinner on this particular day than any other? Because, intention is a powerful tool. And , perhaps Collective Intention empowered through prayer and meditation, can literally pull that curtain aside so the dead can once again share time and space in the land of the living in the form of a spiritual supper.

Here is how the Dumb Supper works.

After the family meal is cooked, the table is set with an empty place setting filled with food.

This extra setting is for all the family ancestors to come and enjoy a meal with the living family members.

Photographs of the deceased are often placed on the table as an invitation--the the first step in manifesting a desired outcome.

Join me one week from now for part 2 of Dining with the Dead when we will explore The 5 important rules for breaking bread with the dead.
